The Stars and the Cookie Jar

I am flattened by fear of the upcoming election. It has a smell like stagnant water laced with soot. I know how Tuesday will go, for me: I will go to work in the dark, and return home in the mild daylight, and take my driver's license and passeport and my voter's reg down to the town hall and vote.

And then, afraid, I'll wait.

I am a Socialist, a Jew and a lover of women. None of this has ever been secret. I'm deathly, cold afraid that will have to change.
