selkie at 04:29pm on 02/11/2004My name is Selkie and I am an American citizen. I reside in Massachusetts, so I could probably not-have-voted today. However, if I hadn't voted, I'd have been throwing away a right billions of people in this world do not have.
Please vote. There's time yet.
I voted for the sake of my freedoms, for the sake of the woman I love, for the sake of our future children; for the men and women who go to work in the morning, every morning, only a little later than I do, to feed their families and pay for broken arms and chicken pox and first cars and braces. I voted for the sake of the people in the doorways, the people on the air grates on the sidewalk in the snow, the veterans in wheelchairs with the signs that say 'HUNGRY HOMELESS WILL WORK PLEASE HELP'. I voted because one day, I will be aged, infirm and in need of reliable paratransit and a free clinic. I voted because someday, my daughter might need an abortion, and no matter what I believe, some things in her life will not be mine to choose. I voted because this is my country, and if I live here, I must do something, or whatever comes might be my fault.
