Thank you to everyone who donated to [livejournal.com profile] darthrami for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. It was a nice walk, uncharacteristically cold at first but then the weather became just gorgeous. And we held up many tour buses, and there was a nice, dignified older policeman who took off his hat for us. There were also many children who did not know well enough to avoid horse pats in the road. The vendors donating seemed to be particularly classy: Naked Juices, and Glaceau, and of course Coca-Cola and Starbucks.

We scored lots of free powdered lemonade, mostly on accident.

It was a good good day, particularly as yesterday I slow-roasted myself over coals at a bilingual job interview ([livejournal.com profile] la_rainette, why are Quebecois so cranky and inclined to tutoie one to death as if one was a puppy?}and the walk was for a good good cause. So.

While milling around waiting for the walk to start, I thought of a walk of my own:

The Exploding Spleen Fun Run/Walk.

A group of individuals would collect their funds/recyclable tins/IOU's and walk around the Mall (or, say, Boston Common, if the event were to reach out to other cities) wearing t-shirts that proclaimed our objective, eg Finding a Cure For Mysteriously Explosive Spleens. Walkers would carry red balloons filled with raspberry preserves, strawberry Jell-o and the like -- be creative! They would hurl these triumphal mini-spleens at any tourist who obstructed the stated route for the walk...
And that's where the running would come in.
It's a fun run! as my fiancee says.
