The Stars and the Cookie Jar

This is why I'm going shopping tonight.

If you read this journal at all, you probably know I owe my father a debt of ingratitude for all that smackin' around and abusin' and other such blah blah blah. You probably know that the fucked-up reverberates through my family like ripples on a lake if the ripples were made by a perpetual spring coiled gabillion-horespower mechanism. You probably know that I turned out a fun mix of runaway and foster child because there was just nobody who would help, or help adequately, no state-run oranganisation with enough time or money to provide a safe place, and I feel like I didn't find a safe place until I found my wife.

Tonight, Doorways For Women and Families, a shelter for abused women, children, entire families all together (that's important), is hosting an invitation-only shopping gala at Crate and Barrel, with the door ticket price and 10% of purchases going right to the shelter.

This is a cause that's beyond important to me. If you can come to the Crate and Barrel at the Clarendon metro stop in Virginia tonight from 6-9 PM, you can purchase a ticket at the door, get some quality shopping time and be eligible for a door prize.
