We went to the brand-new, shiny Whole Foods in Alexandria.
Hooboy.
Go now, while everything is on sale! We got a ton of wonderful stuff, and they have a dry-aging room, and they have a cheese cave, and men were walking around waving large fresh snappers at us. For dinner tonight, we had some lovely yellowfin that had arrived at the market an hour before we did, and had just finished being cut and displayed.
They have pizza, a food bar that includes huge slabs of chocolate cake for $2.99, and all the usual Whole Foods madness.
And yes, I spent just under my budget. I was afraid I was going to go mad and cackle a lot and go way under in the checking account. So I have no money for a haircut, but I still have some money. And for me? In a store where I can get runny Saint-Nectaire and peach white tea and turkey maple apple sausages and mangoes? I did really well. Oh, and there was goat brie.
And now I think I need to write. I've been going through my writing these past couple of days. I think I need to be more productive.
ETA: I forgot the eggs! They have eggs loose in the produce section. Brown or white organic eggs on display right after the vegetal stuff. You pick the ones you want (6 for $1) and lay them in a little round metal basket stuffed with excelsior, and then at the checkout they lay them in a recycled egg carton for you.
