And it's that[livejournal.com profile] sovay person's fault again.

...All right, technically it may have been me.

But I'm not going to cop to it.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this to pique the general curiosity, or send the reading public away shrieking...  (Fair do's: the image is from Costume of Nashua. I don't know anything about their business, but gingham AND birds AND ribbon falls, it's perfect.)

It reminds me of The Dress That Got Away -- browsing through the shops in Colonial Williamsburg, I found a dark green brocade dress with matching stomacher, and tried it on, and nearly wept when I saw how good it looked on me and realised that I couldn't justify dropping $400 (pretty much my entire savings at the time) on a dress that I would almost never wear.

One of these days, I'll find another colonial dress like that and won't hesitate to buy it...

Yeeeah, there's a cloak like that with my name on it at CW. (I have the short, red one; I pined for the full-length green one, but the fact is we live in the mid-Atlantic and cloaks are usually uncalled for. Not to mention the Metro is filthy.) This dress is about fifty years out of period for what I want, actually, but it had the stars-aligned combination of blue gingham and a birdie stomacher.

Oh! Would you care to beta my Lesbian Kit Marlowe Project? It's only a short story -- or will be when it's finished -- and I swear it's basically harmless. *beams*

That is gorgeous. I'd *love* to wear something like that.

My grandmother made a gorgeous colonial dress to wear on April 19th in Lexington. I think my sister has it now. I got to wear it once--it was really pretty.

Yes, there is no faulting the repro work... but I'm afraid my intentions are not noble or good. The founding fathers and mothers would be so chagrined. :)
