Badly, that's how it's going.
Well, I mean, I'm not unhappy, and my book is coming out (finally!!!) and it's lovely weather, but I remain an ineffectual fat slag who's unable to get a decent living wage out of her degrees. CareerBuilder makes me want to stew my eyeballs with some zaartar, my actual job is... well, no comment... and it's just. I don't know how I'm supposed to succeed in this job market. I made some crucial wrong turning out of college that has damned me to an eternity of retail.

Oh, and fuck the entire province of Quebec. Or county or principality or walled fucking citadel or whatever it is. I hope the sea has a freak rising and engulfs the lot of them.

It's not you. The job market is just like that. Yay, book!

*hides behind you*

Why can't I be one of those dazzlingly dishonest people who lives off the government?

Your book is coming out, and you are a remarkable writer and artist. *hugs*

What happened with the Quebecois? Was your French too "Parisian" for them? (Might have been. They are terrible people, the Quebecois.)

*cries* Mean person said they didn't think their customers would be comfortable with me cos I sounded formal and awkward in my French.

*cries more*

There's a difference between being comfortable and being rude!

Bande de cons. *shakes head*

I didn't get the job at Scholastic, either -- and I'm sure that's because they want a speaker of perfect Quebecois (which I am not). Actually, I almost made the MOST TERRIBLE BLUNDER right in the middle of the interview. The lady had been talking about les romains a lot, and I was about to ask her why I should have to deal with Romans, when all of a sudden reality hit me on the head: she wasn't saying Romains, she was saying Romans (novels) with a heavy Quebec accent. Whoops. :D

Remember that post I made about some people from Quebec hating me on sight cos I was French? You met one of those; they're the worst assholes. Sorry, sweetheart.

I supposed I had not gotten the job at Scholastic, because they had never called me back.

But then they just did, 10 minutes ago: the job is mine if I want it *flails* WAH DECISION TIME! (but am still proud I got it)

:D It's a huge ego boost, I have to say!

I have just sent an email to decline, alas. It's just -- financially it doesn't work that well, and they want me to start NOW. And these are my last months before both girls are in school full time, and I want to spend that time with them. So.

Also, most of the money would be used to pay for childcare, so it doesn't really make sense.

It's not like I don't have any work, anyways. But I have to say, I would have liked the opportunity to kick my current boss in the butt with a resounding "yo! look at me! I'm G.O.N.E. Gone, baby!" But. There's what you'd like to do. And then there are priorities *looks fondly at her girls* Time is so precious, I want to make the most of it.

Congratulations on your book coming out *g* I, hum, I haven't ordered my copy yet cos your financee kinda said you would give me a Special Signed Copy *sheepish grin* Do you get Special Copies, or is it best if I do order one, and then send it over to Get Signed?

No one is immune from having their ego repeatedly bashed in when looking for a job. You're in good company. Keep on truckin' ;)

Yes, the Quebecois inconvenience the crap out of South Florida several months of the year. I had no direct contact with them, but got to deal with the fallout from their undertipped waitpersons, hotel staff and other customer-facing clerks who were staggeringly glad every year when the snowbirds flew home and not at all shy about taking it out on we locals.

See, my mama told me that French was the universal language, lovely and spoken by lovely people, so of course I took Spanish. On no account would I be caught dead taking momly advice at the advanced age of twelve.

Look, I hate to make cultural generalisations. But they're just such snarky people!

I feel better about myself now.

I've always considered the people wealthy enough to travel abroad the worst possible representatives of a given culture. I'm not sure the college juniors sent by the University of California to Spain and other points European in 1982 were necessarily America's best foot forward. ;)

Still...the Quebecois wealthy enough to winter in Florida probably shouldn't be allowed past the border.
