...well, at least not when they're sitting in the office of their house of worship.

So, we had our first pre-marital class thing, and it was surprisingly thorough and enjoyable. And we drove around in search of a Wawa while my brain digested everything that had happened during the session and I digested a little tiny Wawa Sandwich. It was all very digestive. But, on the whole, I was pleased to see how well-balanced and compatible we are as human beings. At least that's one problem we don't have to deal with. And then we had yummy dinner with fiancee's family, who continue to make my family look like rabid howler monkeys shaking bones. Then we got on the train and came home. And there is nothing else to report, except my feet hurt. So much walking. And now to sleep.

Oh! Forgot to mention that Nice Clergyman had clipped together a whole bunch of ideas for an Egalitarian Service, and was expounding upon them enthusiastically, and then tucked them back into his folder and walked away with them. So. If any of you have ideas for our Egalitarian Service, please leave them here in the comments.

Oooer, when did we pimp it last? Do you remember the date? Cos I have no links anymore!

Remember? Date? Me?

There are links for buyingness in my journal a few entries back. Look for the icon of the maniacally laughing baby selkie.

Glad you survived your family. We could now call you the master of domestic arts.

Notwithstanding Sam's contribution, thanks to which there is now jasmine tea all over my jeans, what is an Egalitarian Service? The definition of 'egalitarian' in my head is a society based around reward for merit and equality.

In this sense, gender-less and blending two disparate religions. So, like, God, but no Jesus, and no Moses. Or if we could be low on the Jesus and Moses, that would be good, too. Because there's a quote from... uhh.... Paul to the Corinthians? that we quite liked in the model service that he picked up and walked away with, and that's fine. But really, I'm just having an awful problem with words for the service, considering that I'm a writer. Also, feel better.

Thanks, dear *snuffles happily and pats industrial-size box of tissues*

Hmmm. If t'were me I'd be pulling sonnets out of the woodwork, but that's because I'm a Shakespeare nut and not everyone appreciates flowery iambs being declaimed at their wedding. Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, etc, and wow it's kind of sad how much of that I can recite. Blame that damn Sense and Sensibility film.

Are you writing your own vows?

Obligatory response from my quotes file:

"You can't have Jesus without Moses, Moses was the only one to survive the flood!"

I have always been partial to that quote from? about? Ruth. "Whither thou goest..."

Ruth said it to Naomi, see Ruth I:16.

However, my quote comes from a friend. While drunk.

We laughed at him. Quite hard as I recall. It took him a while to realize what he'd said . . .

Er, yes, well, I didn't mean to reply to you, just to the egalitarian marriage-y quotes thing. Mouse slipped. Need more sleep.

I think if we had written our own ceremony I would have found a way to include lots of Fred Small. "I Will Stand Fast" and "The Other Side of the Wood" are my favorite commitment-type poems/songs.

Have you read Anita Diamant's book on Jewish weddings? It has a lot of egalitarian and cultural attributes, readings, etc. I have a 10 year old copy if you want it...

Does it have gay? :)

It sounds really interesting, seriously.

My copy was printed in 1985! So no, it doesn't. But there's enough gender-neutral stuff in it that you might find something useful.
