According to my mother, the National Guard is pulling over people who are trying to bring aid to victims on the Alabama coast.

Pulling them over and confiscating the aid supplies, that is.

N.B. I know people shouldn't try to access the devastated areas of the country. But in Alabama the highways remain mostly passable if you have a large utility vehicle, as my mother does. So you'd think it would be possible to at least take stuff -- pristine stuff like cases of water and cases of bandages, which is what my mother brought down -- to the nearest accessible point.

My mother is really upset. Regardless of the advisability of the idea, I find myself upset too.

ETA: The point was possibly unclear, and it's this: if the National Guard are taking these things away from the people trying to bring them to those in need, where's the stuff GOING?

I found this on the salvation army website: Donate Housing:

> To donate space in your home for evacuees or to seek shelter, please visit this website: www.hurricanehousing.org

Hope that helps.
