Right now, this very minute, I am embarked upon my first (steamed) pudding, courtesy of
avariel_wings, who FedEx'd me a stovetop pudding basin with a lid. It's a lemon pudding -- basic pudding batter with lemon zest stirred in, and sugared lemon slices at the bottom of the bowl. It came together very easily.
All I risk is a major explosion of simmering water in a volcano effect from around the sides of the basin.
Also, I need a brick. At the moment, the basin is being held down by four fifteen-ounce tins of various things and a six-ounce tin of tomato paste, meaning I need about five pounds of steady weight to keep the pudding from bobbling around insanely and frightening the cats.
We'll see how it turns out...
I've really missed puddings.
ETA: Failure! Faaailure! Lack of structural integrity! The centre went sploosh and fell out. It's tasty, though!

I've never had a problem with the pudding bobbling, but I have a ceraming pudding basin. A cloth on the top works fine.
