I'm planning a dinner party for 7.5 (maybe 7.75, if Tadpole likes the food) and the only things I have set in my mind are the bread and the dessert.

Sigh.

(for [livejournal.com profile] la_rainette, [livejournal.com profile] eruthros and others who will be in attendance: dessert is ganache tart and Alsatian apple tart. Bread is pain a l'ancienne in the style of Providence, RI.)

I thought about a bourride to start, but I dunno who likes fish.

I thought about ris de veau, because no one will know what they are and they will eat them, yes precious, eat them and find them delicate and tasty, but then I was afraid my wife would find out what they were and freeze me from the marital bed.

I thought about cassoulet but AHAHAHAHA I DIDN'T REALLY YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE INSANE.

I want to have a really nice dinner party for [livejournal.com profile] la_rainette, you see, and her tasteful wee Continental children and her gourmand grenouille, while challenging myself. We may even have a cheese course.

mmmmm. cheeeeeeeese.

I'm sorry. Was I saying something?

So. Cheese! No. Main courses. Plats principaux. What do you want? I don't do paupiettes of anything, but beyond that....

Does any dinner really need more than bread, cheese, and dessert? :D

Think of the children!

That all sounds very lovely! Mmmm, tart. Mmmm, bread. Mmmmmm, cheeeeese!

I actually quite like fish, personally. I don't understand people who don't like fish. (Or mushrooms. I know people who don't eat mushrooms because they "taste funny." Weird.)

If you would like, I could bring wine out from California. (There are a lot of good small-vineyard moscatels, if you're looking for a dessert wine, for example.)

([livejournal.com profile] m_shell doesn't eat cow, fyi.)

*this randomness brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] eruthros being completely out of it*

Is OK we have cheeckens.

Ooh! A moscatel would be lovely if you can get it on the cheap. And so unique from a small California vineyard!

Of all the people at Millicon, why'd you have to room with my ex?

*blink*

*blinkblinkblink*

I did not know you had an ex at the millicon.

*blink* Um. It was through no fault of mine? I did not know? Ignorance is... something?

Sorry?

No sorry! I should have put in more smilies. I was teasing, although ex she remains (that is oversimplifying it). I think we can manage to be amicable long enough for me to squee over meeting you. For lo, Millicon is a joyous time of crackhood and meeting everybody. :-D

Whew. You totally scared me. Had me fearing for the good crack-aspect of the con, even. (I had just had an argument with a parent, and was probably a bit more likely to hear annoyance in posts' tones than I would normally be.)

I still can't wait to meet everybody. Just thinking about it makes me giddy. :D
