The Stars and the Cookie Jar

....Start New Job promptly on Monday, or call with regrets due to an act of G-d and stay with spouse for a family funeral out of state, whenever that may be? (It's not a Jewish funeral, and apparently the process can take days.) I didn't know the deceased very well, but I feel like my place is with my future spouse.

On the other hand, I realise quite well that it's horribly gauche even with extenuating circumstances to call out on one's first day.

Gaaaaah, what should I do?
