Saturday: We ran around like crazy people. Grocery shopping and moving furniture and all sorts of errands. I also made some very cute Shelob biscuits from a recipe on Epicurious -- chocolate drop biscuits with eight little pretzel-stick legs on each biscuit, couverture coating, chocolate hundreds and thousands to look all hairy and spidery, and mini M & M eyes.
Like something Jacques Torres would make, if Jacques Torres was buggering batshit insane with a culinary inferiority complex the size of Cleveland.
They took about two hours, all told. I was told they looked fantastic! But here's the thing. It's from, like, a recipe book of fun food to do with your kids for major American holidays, and I can't imagine making these biscuits with children. They take too long to cool completely, and if the kids haven't lost interest in them by then, they're going to make a horrible mess dabbing at couverture with pastry brushes trying to cover all the little legs with chocolate, and then all the candy toppings, and... bleh. Maybe they did look fantastic. If I was a mom, I'd have torn my hair out in the attempt to make them.
Also, I got a haircut and we went to a party.
Sunday: I really want to get some writing done, but I'm laying around being a lazy ass after hosting
tobyfan for lunch. And I haven't finished reading The Penultimate Peril yet. And I got the laundry done and I did the roast lunch and the ice cream and the bread for tomorrow. And I want Chinese takeaway for dinner, based simply on the fact that it is something I did not cook.
We watched Saved! again because
tobyfan hadn't seen it. What a fabulous, fabulous film. And I want an Eva Amurri to play with.
I wonder if N will pay for Chinese takeaway for dinner.
