Selkie, that thing happened in my Hebrew class where half the kids already know the alphabet and can make all the right noises. I hate that. Hate hate hate. People who take beginning language courses in languages they already know = one of my peeviest pet peeves, because then I, an actual beginner, tend to get thrown out on my ass. :(

Just practice looking Angry at them from behind your lack of epicanthal folds, and when they call you peeved and grumpy, accuse them vehemently of anti-Asian sentiment and challenge them to even name what kind of Asian you are .

I dunno, it worked for the freshmen of Asian extraction I knew, whether it had anything to do with the problem they were having, or not.

There's actually another Asian in the class, surprisingly. She seems really nice. She's a senior and an Arabic major.
