Me: Let me know when you want to cover your lunch hour!

She: Oh, I don't take lunch. That way I get to leave an hour earlier.

Me: ....Did [Boss] say that?

She: No, it's what I do. See, I came in at 8:30 this morning, and I leave at 4:30.

Me: No, you leave at 5:30.

She: That's why I don't take no lunch.

Me: You have to take a lunch hour. It's the law. And I don't think you can leave at 4:30. We need phone coverage until 5:30.

She: But that's a nine-hour day.

Me: That's why you get an hour for lunch.

She: I don't work til no 5:30.

Me: OK, but -- didn't they tell you at the temp agency that the hours for the position were 8:30-5:30?

She: That's why I don't take no lunch, so's I can leave at 4:30.

Me: You can't. Just. Leave. I've worked 8:30 to 5:30 most of the time I've been here. I used to work 8:30 to 6:00. Everyone here works nine hours with an hour for lunch to make it eight.

She: I don't work til no 5:30. I has to call my agency.

Me: Let me know when you want me to cover your lunch. *facepalms*

Yeah, I tried to do that waaaaaay back in the day. All the payroll people did was subtract my lunch from my vacation time.
Sadly...I didn't realize this until three months had past.

All those vacation hours...GONE just GONE!

*weeps openly*

Every time I feel vaguely guilty for not being a more motivated and efficient temp, I'm going to read this entry and remind myself that I could be so much worse.

Wow. I kinda can't believe she even got hired.

First thing she said to me, seeing a photo of my wedding at my desk: 'Oh, you gay? That's naaaaasty!'

Yes, but did she say it approvingly?

*has actually heard that*

Nope.

...and that's enough to get her fired from the temp agency. Bad work habits are one thing. Classic hostile workplace comments are another entirely.

Warn her that you'll smack her with your official Gay Agenda toaster.

Or get her fired.

I did that.

Not the first, more fun one.

...

well. in that case a) i applaud you for not going off into a detailed explanation of how nasty it is when grown women cannot speak English, do simple math, or follow instructions and b) for not picking up the photo and smacking her with it.

for not picking up the photo and smacking her with it.

Or setting it up as her desktop wallpaper when she wasn't looking.

....You know, every so often I forget your quiet, stealthy streak of evil.
Hehehehehe.

Yeah, he's all kinds of brilliant like that. Actually, you should totally meet him. And his wife. He does this great impression of Bob Dylan falling down a well! Also Siberian... polytonal... glottal... vocal... thing.
