So, FList, what does it mean when my computer (plugged in and reporting that it is, indeed, on AC power) says its battery is at 7%, then 51%, then 11%, then shuts down?

It means there might be a fault in the connection between your charger and the laptop. My laptop had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Cost about $220 Australian to repair, though I'm not sure how much that is in your money...

If it's not that...I'm not sure.
