Is anyone else getting less-than-rationally nervous that our country could quite soon tip over into the pages of The Handmaid's Tale? It's scary to see positive press for a woman who really does advocate not "freedom to" but "freedom from".

Yes; she's unreal to the point of dystopia, and then I remember that she really exists, potentially in a position of great power, and I want to dig up George Orwell and smack him.

I keep imagining her as this towering colossus of fundamentalist zealotry, and then remembering that I'm probably taller than she is. That somehow makes it more frightening.
