"As for homosexuality, I am not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult personal relationships. I have one of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay, and I love her dearly. And she is not my "gay friend," she is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made. But I am not going to judge people."

Sarah Palin, people.

If I could have chosen anything, I would have chosen to be straight, marry some alte kokhter guy named Zvi or Nachman or Elkhanan, and pop out one baby a year somewhere in Queens. For choice, how about a nice bookstore and Judaica run by my husband's father, and a shtibl where maybe there was air-conditioning.
For about a decade I wanted nothing more than to make that choice, if I could. Because I am human, and humans will usually choose what is easy over what is good, and right, and true. Staying a part of that world would have been so very easy.

I am glad my heart found its way onto the right road. But don't come talking to me about choice.

You know, every time I see or hear Palin (even without taking Tina Fey into account), there's this moment of cognitive dissonance where I think "Okay, this is a comedy performance, isn't it?" Except for the fact that she's not funny. Not even a little.

Also? Excellent post.

I keep waiting for someone to pop out of the wings and yell "gotcha"

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of...

Yeah, I can just see her celebrating their inauguration, by turning to the cameras and gleefully biting the head off a kitten. Metaphorically speaking.

I don't even have to be married to you to be extraordinarily glad you didn't.

Yeah, but I feel like the stupid and evil were choices. Not choices I would have made of course... But ugly? She can't help.

She doesn't have to wear a dead polecat on her head.

I think it's required in Alaska, actually.

YES TO THIS POST.

Also, I love how much emphasis she puts on her personal choices, while all the time she's talking about taking those choices away from everyone else.

I wish I knew how to make that stop. I've argued with a number of Fundy types myself, trying to explain to them that I've yet to meet anyone who is gay who would have "chosen" it. It's not something you just "choose", deciding between apple or pumpkin pie.

I tell them being gay is just like being hetero..except that one's gender preference is same gender instead of opposite. Gay people could no more imagine being straight, then they themselves could imagine being gay. It seems to be largely beyond their ability to grasp the concept. Seems like a fairly easy one for me personally.

I wish there was something I could do beyond just that. I hate to see good people made to feel like crap because of ignorant idiots like Sarah Palin. But not all Heteros are like her. Some of us do understand it isnt a "choice". Hell, if it was...I'd switch sides, women aggravate me way less than men do lol.

Good luck and dont let that twit get to you. With luck, she'll be sent packing back to Alaska and obscurity where she rightly belongs.
