Verdict: About 20% hype.
Two of N's bosses gave her a $120 gift card for Dean and DeLuca, a place where normally we fear to tread.
Dean and DeLuca is the only vendor in the country authorized to sell pata negra jamon Iberico -- that's Spanish for Pricey Happy Acorn Pig With Black-Toed Footie-Wooties -- to the public, and they do indeed sell it, to the mournful tune of $100 a pound.
N bought us a quarter pound while I stood at the counter and made wail and moan over the price.
We ate a tiny bit of it in the car, and it does indeed do something besides act like overpriced prosciutto. It's dark, sharp, and maybe a little acorny, with a buttery minerally taste to the fat.
Worth my money? Likely not. Worth someone else's money? Sure.

I have been under a culinary rock. What is this costly pig of which you speak?

Also tasty and bought with free money: siggi's pomegranate passionfruit skyr. :)

First time I had it, I thought it was so good I nearly cried. Though I also didn't pay for it -it was part of a new product tasting- I have promised myself that one day I will.
