I think I've just seen one of my Top Three Films Ever. (Sadly, I cannot include all of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, because of the Battle of Ent's Deep editing fiasco that was TTT.)

Girl With A Pearl Earring. The film was better than the book, I kid you not. From the casting to the costuming to Alakina Mann's evil little mug. Griet stood and stared a little too much, maybe, but... oh. So erotic without anybody doing anything, and gut-wrenching sexual tension, and best cinematic example ever of the power of a woman's unbound hair.

Go, rent it!

Do you think someone like my husband would be able to sit through it without falling asleep? He liked "Kill Bill."

I'm about to present myself as a philistine.

...but I could barely read the book without falling asleep...

I tell you, better than the book, because the movie has this thing, it's called pacing... Actually, it's what I'd refer to as a 'film' rather than a 'movie', if that makes any sense at all, but yeah, other than Griet staring too damn much, it eschews the book's tendency to go off onto the Plane of Tangentia.

(mournful headshake) Probably not. There is no killing.... It's a grand film if you like gorgeous cinematography, period sets and costumes, and Repressed Sexual Tension Guh-lore. Can't imagine it being a guy-friendly flick, though.

Figured. DH always says "you know I'll sit through anything," but it's no fun to watch a movie with someone who's bored witless. I'll probably watch it by myself.
